Being a Disciple in Church

Being a Disciple in Church

Speaker: Pastor Catherine Chan
Date: 17 August 2025

What does it truly mean to be a disciple in the church? In this week’s message, Pastor Catherine Chan draws from 1 Peter 2:9–10, reminding us that we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, and a family called out of darkness into God’s marvelous light.

Discipleship is not about programs or attendance—it’s about identity and relationship.

  • We Are Family: The church is the household of faith where we share life, carry one another’s burdens, build each other up, and walk in accountability. Like the early church in Acts 2, discipleship is lived out in fellowship, prayer, and spiritual disciplines, where every believer contributes to the growth of the body.

  • We Are Servants: Following Jesus’ example in Mark 10:45, greatness in God’s kingdom is not about status but about serving others. True discipleship moves us away from consumerism toward becoming contributors, using our time, gifts, and love to bless others and advance God’s mission.

Just like a spiritual kampung (village), discipleship in Elim means no one stands alone—we grow, serve, and live out our faith together as family.

👉 The Challenge for Us:

  1. Be a part of the family of God.

  2. Serve with renewed joy and fervor.

  3. Be a channel of blessing to others.

As Pastor Catherine reminds us, discipleship is never about “me” or “you” alone—it is always about “us,” the body of Christ, growing strong and unstoppable together.
