Ordered in Relationships

🌟 Sermon Summary: Ordered in Relationships | Pastor Derek Foo | 14 Sept 2025 🌟

In this week’s message, Pastor Derek Foo reminded us that the beauty of the church is not in the building, but in the relationships within the household of faith. A healthy church is one where every believer understands their role and lives it out under God’s order, becoming a compelling witness to the world.

From Titus 2:1–14, Paul gives instructions to five groups within the church:

1️⃣ Older Men – Stability
Called to be temperate, respectable, sound in faith, love, and endurance. Like deep roots of a tree, their maturity provides stability and anchors the household of faith.

2️⃣ Older Women – Influence
Called to be reverent, teaching what is good, and mentoring younger women. Like the trunk of a tree, they are conduits of faith and wisdom, shaping discipleship life-to-life.

3️⃣ Younger Women – Faithfulness
Called to love their families, practice purity, kindness, and responsibility. Their faithfulness in daily life—like the branches of a tree—showcases the beauty of the gospel in ordinary rhythms.

4️⃣ Younger Men – Self-Control
Called to channel their passion and zeal with Spirit-led self-control. Like new shoots, they need guidance and examples of integrity to grow strong without breaking away.

5️⃣ Workers/Slaves – Integrity
Called to serve faithfully and with honesty, making the gospel attractive by their diligence. Like fruit and leaves, their integrity is what others see and taste, pointing people to Christ.

✨ The Grace Factor

Paul reminds us that none of this is possible by sheer effort. Every relationship in the church must be grounded in God’s grace:

  • Grace teaches us – training and shaping us like a coach into godliness (v.12).

  • Grace anchors us in hope – reminding us to live in light of Christ’s return (v.13).

  • Grace defines our identity – we are God’s treasured possession, redeemed to be His people, eager to do good (v.14).

🙌 Final Challenge

A healthy church is ordered in relationships, where every generation and role plays its part. The question is: Will we allow God’s grace to shape us?

Let us be a church marked by stability, influence, faithfulness, self-control, and integrity—so that the light of Christ shines through us as a compelling witness to the world. 🌿
