Be Steadfast in Combat Against Sin, Temptation, and Unbelief
In last Sunday’s message, Rev. Catherine Chan reminded us that as believers, we are engaged in a spiritual battle—one where we must be vigilant and steadfast. Though Jesus has already secured our victory, we must actively resist sin, overcome temptation, and guard our hearts against unbelief.
Key Takeaways from the Sermon:
1️⃣ Resist Sin with Vigilance – Sin is not just a mistake; it is rebellion against God. (1 John 3:4) Even though Christ has set us free, sin still seeks to rule over us (Romans 6:12). We must actively guard our hearts, root out sin, and remain watchful (1 Peter 5:8). Small compromises lead to greater falls—stay firm and resist!
2️⃣ Overcome Temptation – Temptation is the bait that leads to sin. (James 1:14) The world, the flesh, and the enemy entice us with shortcuts, distortions of God’s truth, and distractions. Instead of fighting temptation alone, flee from it! (2 Timothy 2:22). God always provides a way of escape—we must choose to take it! (1 Corinthians 10:13)
3️⃣ Defuse Unbelief – Unbelief limits God’s work in our lives. (Matthew 13:58) When we focus on circumstances rather than God’s promises, doubt creeps in. Instead of striving, we are called to trust in God’s faithfulness, immerse ourselves in His Word, and hold fast to His truth. (Philippians 4:6-7)
🔑 Key Scripture: 1 Corinthians 16:13 – “Be on guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”
Like a bird trapped in a cage even after the door is opened, many believers live as though they are still bound by sin and fear. But Christ has set us free—let’s not go back to old habits, doubts, or compromises. Instead, let’s soar in faith, live in victory, and walk boldly in the freedom Christ has given us!
