Be Watchful in Relationships and Family Life

Be Watchful in Relationships and Family Life

Sermon by Pastor Glen Lim

Pastor Glen launches a brand-new sermon series focused on relationships and family life with an important reminder from Proverbs 4:23:

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

In a world filled with distractions, temptations, broken relationships, and spiritual compromise, believers are called to remain watchful and prayerful — especially in these last days.

What Does It Mean to Guard the Heart?

Pastor Glen explains that the “heart” mentioned in Scripture is not simply our emotions or feelings. It is the spiritual center of our lives — the place where our thoughts, motives, decisions, attitudes, and actions flow from.

The Bible describes the natural heart as:

  • Deceitful
  • Corrupt
  • Spiritually sick

Without God, the human heart naturally drifts toward sin, selfishness, pride, and destruction.

That is why we cannot fully trust our own hearts apart from Christ.

A New Heart Through Jesus

The good news is that when we surrender our lives to Jesus, God does not simply patch up our old heart — He gives us a completely new one.

Through salvation:

  • Our hearts are rescued
  • Our lives are redeemed
  • The Holy Spirit begins transforming us from within

Pastor Glen highlights Ezekiel 36:26, where God promises:

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.”

This transformation enables believers to live differently:

  • Freely
  • Purely
  • Purposefully

Not by our own strength, but through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Why Guarding the Heart Matters

Because the heart influences every part of life, the enemy constantly seeks to corrupt it.

Pastor Glen warns believers to guard their hearts against:

  • Toxic people and unhealthy influences
  • Social media deception and worldly philosophies
  • Hidden sin and unhealthy habits
  • Pride, jealousy, bitterness, and unforgiveness
  • Doubt and unbelief

Many spiritual compromises begin subtly. Little by little, the heart becomes hardened, distracted, and distant from God.

That is why spiritual vigilance is essential.

By Their Fruits You Will Know Them

Pastor Glen also reminds the church that true Christianity is revealed through fruit, not appearances.

Jesus warned that some people may look spiritual outwardly but inwardly remain far from Him. The evidence of a transformed heart is seen through:

  • Character
  • Obedience
  • Humility
  • Love
  • Faithfulness

God is not impressed merely by external actions. He looks at the condition and motives of the heart.

Five Practical Ways to Guard the Heart

1. Commit Your Life to God Daily

Spend time in prayer, worship, and God’s Word. Stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s conviction and direction.

2. Check What You Allow Into Your Life

Be mindful of what you watch, listen to, and entertain. Not every influence is spiritually healthy.

3. Cut Off What Displeases God

Do not tolerate hidden sin or unhealthy compromises. Obey the Holy Spirit quickly.

4. Confess and Repent Quickly

God is faithful to forgive and cleanse us when we come before Him sincerely.

5. Choose Wise Friendships

Not everyone should have access to your inner circle. Surround yourself with people who strengthen your walk with God.

A Call to Watchfulness

As believers living in the last days, Pastor Glen reminds us that we must remain spiritually alert. The enemy seeks to distract and destroy, but God calls His people to stand firm and remain faithful.

This message is not about fear — it is about intentional living.

When we stay close to Jesus and allow the Holy Spirit to guard our hearts:

  • We live with peace instead of anxiety
  • Wisdom instead of compromise
  • Purpose instead of confusion

Final Challenge

Pastor Glen closes the message with two important challenges:

1. Surrender your heart fully to Jesus again

Allow Him to be Lord over every area of your life.

2. Stay plugged into God daily

Depend on the Holy Spirit to strengthen and guide you.

God has rescued your heart.
Do not allow the world or the enemy to reclaim what Jesus has already redeemed.

Guard your heart well — because your life flows from it.
