Facing the Giant of Depression

Facing the Giant of Depression

🌟 Sermon Summary: Facing the Giant of Depression | Pastor Glen Lim | 18 May 2025 🌟

Depression is a giant many silently struggle with.
It cuts across age, gender, and status—affecting pastors, prophets, professionals, and parents alike. In this week’s powerful message, Pastor Glen Lim brings us into the story of Elijah, a great prophet who—after his biggest spiritual victory—fell into deep despair.

💬 3 Signs You’re Facing the Giant of Depression:

1️⃣ Emotional & Physical Burnout

  • After calling down fire on Mount Carmel, Elijah flees in fear when threatened by Queen Jezebel (1 Kings 19:3).

  • He isolates himself and prays to die.
📉 I’ve had enough, Lord. Take my life.”

2️⃣ Spiritual Disconnection

  • Despite God’s previous miracles, Elijah feels utterly alone.

  • He loses perspective, saying he’s the only one left.

3️⃣ Mental and Emotional Exhaustion

  • Depression distorts truth. Elijah forgets God’s faithfulness, and his thinking becomes overwhelmed with despair.

🛠 How God Responds to Depression (Body, Spirit & Soul):

🔹 1. God Cares for Your Body (Physical Needs)

📖 1 Kings 19:5–8

  • God sends an angel with bread and water, and lets Elijah sleep.

  • 🔁 Sometimes healing begins with rest, nourishment, and sleep.

🔹 2. God Ministers to Your Spirit (Spiritual Needs)

📖 1 Kings 19:11–13

  • God reveals Himself not in fire, wind, or earthquake, but in a gentle whisper.

  • He teaches Elijah (and us) that He’s close—even in stillness and silence.

🔹 3. God Restores Your Soul (Emotional & Relational Needs)

📖 1 Kings 19:15–18

  • God recommissions Elijah with new assignments: anoint kings, raise a successor (Elisha), and reminds him he’s not alone—7,000 others remain faithful.

  • 💡 When you feel useless, God reminds you that your story is not over.

💡 Key Takeaways for Today:

AApproach God confidently. He is your Heavenly Father.
BBelieve that your breakthrough and healing are possible.
CConfess and realign your heart with God’s purpose.
DDedicate your life anew. Your pain can become your platform.
EEncourage others. As God restores you, help others rise too.
