You Give Them Something to Eat
Sermon Title: You Give Them Something to Eat
Speaker: Pastor Glenn Lim
Scripture Text: Matthew 14:13–21
In this moving sermon, Pastor Glenn draws from the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000 to remind us that God desires to use every believer as His instrument of love and compassion.
When Jesus heard of John the Baptist’s death, He withdrew to a solitary place — yet, moved by compassion, He ministered to the multitudes who followed Him. His compassion was not passive emotion but active response. Likewise, we are called to see the lost, broken, and needy through His eyes and respond with empathy that leads to action.
When the disciples saw the overwhelming crowd, they focused on what they lacked — only five loaves and two fish. But Jesus saw an opportunity for a miracle. He told them, “You give them something to eat.” It was both a call and a command — to obedience, faith, and involvement.
Pastor Glenn reminded us that God doesn’t need our resources; He desires our willingness. When we place our limited offerings into the hands of Jesus, He blesses, breaks, and multiplies them beyond what we can imagine. Our obedience becomes the channel for His provision and power.
Just as the boy gave up his simple meal, we too are invited to surrender our time, talents, treasures, and lives entirely to Jesus — to be His hands and feet to the lost, hurting, and hopeless.
Key Lessons:
Jesus’ Compassion – True compassion moves us to action, not just emotion.
Jesus’ Command – “You give them something to eat” is a call to obedience and faith.
Jesus’ Provision – When we give what we have, God multiplies beyond our imagination.
Challenge:
Take your entire life — your body, time, talents, career, finances, and passions — and lay them at the feet of Jesus. Tell Him, “Here are my five loaves and two fish. Break me, bless me, and use me.”
When we give what we have, God multiplies it for His Kingdom. We will never be depleted when we surrender our lives to serve Him and His purposes.
Key Verse:
“They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.”
— Matthew 14:20
