Be Anxious For Nothing
Sermon by Pastor Glen Lim
Text: Philippians 4:6–7
Vision Sunday marks the spiritual direction of the year ahead, and as Elim Church steps into 2026, Pastor Glen Lim brought a timely and grounding message titled “Be Anxious For Nothing.” In a world marked by rapid change, uncertainty, and constant pressure, God’s word offers clarity, stability, and peace.
Pastor Glen began by acknowledging reality: life does not slow down, and change is often sudden and unsettling. Like navigating a maze with unexpected turns, uncertainty can quickly give rise to anxiety. Left unchecked, anxiety affects not only our emotions but also our spiritual health — leading to fear, anger, confusion, loss of direction, and even drifting away from God.
Yet Scripture gives us a clear response. Philippians 4:6–7 does not deny the existence of trouble; instead, it teaches us how to respond. God calls His people not to be anxious, but to bring everything to Him in prayer — specifically, continually, and with thanksgiving. Prayer is not avoidance; it is alignment. When we pray, we shift our focus from the problem to the presence of God.
Pastor Glen emphasised that anxiety grows when change is unmanaged. Prayer, however, places God at the centre of our uncertainties. When we entrust our worries to Him, God’s peace — which surpasses all understanding — guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. This peace does not depend on circumstances changing; it rests on trusting a faithful and unchanging God.
Facing Uncertain Times Positively
The sermon outlined practical biblical principles to help believers navigate uncertain seasons with faith and confidence:
Keep your eyes on Jesus, not the problems (Hebrews 12:2)
Trust in the Lord completely (Proverbs 3:5–6)
Pray specifically and continually (Philippians 4:6; Luke 18:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Ask God for wisdom and discernment (James 1:5)
Draw close to God (James 4:8; Hebrews 4:16)
Cast all your burdens on Him (1 Peter 5:7; Psalm 55:22)
Live with thanksgiving and praise
Remain calm and receive God’s peace
Remember that while everything may change, Jesus never changes (Hebrews 13:8)
These practices are not religious routines, but expressions of trust — daily choices to lean on God rather than self-reliance.
Why We Can Persevere
Pastor Glen reminded the church that perseverance is possible because:
We are connected to Christ (John 15:5)
We are partakers of Christ (Hebrews 3:14)
We are kept by the power of God through faith (1 Peter 1:3–6)
We endure by trusting in Christ’s saving work, not our own strength (Ephesians 2:8)
Above all, we are assured that God is not distant or indifferent. He is in us, with us, and for us. He is our good Father, Shepherd, and Guide. His promise remains firm: “I know the plans I have for you… plans to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
As Elim Church enters 2026, the call is clear — not to deny uncertainty, but to face it with faith. Anchored in prayer, guided by God’s Word, and covered by His peace, we can move forward confidently, knowing that God is still on the throne.
