🌟 Sermon Summary: Facing the Giant of Hurt | Pastor Catherine Chan | 4 May 2025 🌟

Everyone carries emotional wounds—some visible, some deeply hidden.
In the first message of our new series Facing the Giants, Pastor Catherine Chan addressed the often invisible but crippling giant of hurt—offering powerful biblical truths for healing and freedom.

✨ Two Biblical Stories, One Life-Changing Truth:

1️⃣ Joseph – Overcoming Hurt by Releasing It

  • Betrayed by his brothers, falsely accused, imprisoned, and forgotten, Joseph had every reason to grow bitter.

  • But instead of revenge, he chose forgiveness:
📖 “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good…” – Genesis 50:20

  • Joseph’s life reminds us that pain doesn’t define us—God’s purpose does.

  • Forgiveness doesn’t excuse the wrong—it frees us from its grip and restores us from the inside out.

2️⃣ Job – Overcoming Hurt When Life Falls Apart

  • Job’s loss was unimaginable: his family, health, wealth—gone in a moment.

  • Worse, God seemed silent. Friends judged him instead of comforting him.

  • Yet Job’s response was powerful:
📖 “The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” – Job 1:21
📖 “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” – Job 13:15

  • His healing didn’t come from explanations, but from encountering God.

  • The turning point? He prayed for those who hurt him.
📖 “After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes…” – Job 42:10

💡 Key Lessons:

  • Hurt is inevitable, but it’s not your identity.

  • Forgiveness isn’t about the other person—it’s about your freedom.

  • God meets you in your pain—and turns wounds into testimonies.

  • Obeying God in pain leads to healing, restoration, and deeper intimacy with Him.
