In the Fullness of Christ IV: Moments to Treasure

Scripture: Luke 2:19

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

Thrust: We as Christians should regularly treasure and meditate on the God-moments in our lives so that in the fullness of time, God’s plan and purpose will be revealed to us.

I. Treasure the Incredible

3 incredible things happened to Mary:

A. An Incredible Visitation

  • Visitation by the angel (Luke 1:26-38)

B. An Incredible Greeting

41 At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary, “God has blessed you above all women, and your child is blessed. 43 Why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should visit me? 44 When I heard your greeting, the baby in my womb jumped for joy. 45 You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.” (Lk 1:41-45)

C. An Incredible Encounter

  • Angels appeared to the shepherds (Lk 2:8 onwards)

16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. (Lk 2:16-18)

  • Treasured up (suntēréō): to guard, to preserve, to keep safe, to exert mental effort in storing information in order to have continual access and use of it.
  • Ponder (symballō): to think deeply; to think seriously; to debate; to give careful consideration to its implications.

We are to reflect on the INCREDIBLE THINGS  that have happened to us.

II. Treasure the Incomprehensible

All that we know about Jesus' childhood is in Lk 2:40.

And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him. (Lk 2:40)

Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. (Lk 2:41)

  • Shows the devotion of Joseph and Mary. Jesus was raised in such an environment.

46 After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.” 49 “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” 50 But they did not understand what he was saying to them. 51 Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. (Lk 2:46-51)

It is only in hindsight that we are able to slightly comprehend God’s plan and purpose for everything.

One day, we will realize the significance of the INCOMPREHENSIBLE  in God’s masterplan for our lives.

Conclusion

Treasure both the Incredible and the Incomprehensible.

Both the incredible and the incomprehensible are important milestones in our lives that reveal how God is working in our lives.
