EL SHADDAI: GOD ALMIGHTY AND THE ALL-SUFFICIENT ONE
SERMON SUMMARY — “EL SHADDAI: GOD ALMIGHTY AND THE ALL-SUFFICIENT ONE”
Preached by Pastor Derek Sim
Elim Church, English Service
Pastor Derek continued our series on the Hebrew names of God by unveiling one of Scripture’s most powerful revelations: El Shaddai — God Almighty and the All-Sufficient One.
Every time God reveals His name, He reveals part of His identity, His story, and His destiny for us. Understanding this name has the power to reshape how we see God, how we walk with Him, and how we trust Him.
1. HE CAN — El Shaddai Is Mighty to Do the Impossible
Pastor Derek brought us to Genesis 17, where God appeared to a 99-year-old Abraham, whose body was “as good as dead” and whose wife’s womb was barren. In the face of human impossibility, God revealed Himself as El Shaddai — declaring that what Abraham could not do naturally, God would do supernaturally.
El Shaddai carries a dual meaning:
Almighty — God possesses unlimited power
All-Sufficient — God holds unlimited provision
Together, they mean:
God has both the power and the resources to fulfill every promise He made.
Pastor Derek testified of seeing God’s miraculous power in salvation — including his own father’s transformation, the salvation of elderly individuals moments before death, and the unexpected conversion of his brother. These stories remind us that the greatest miracle God performs is still the miracle of a changed heart.
When human ability ends, divine ability begins.
2. HE WILL — El Shaddai Is Sufficient to Provide All We Need
Turning to Paul’s thorn in the flesh (2 Corinthians 12), Pastor Derek explained that God’s sufficiency is not seen in the removal of problems but in the revelation of His strength in our weakness.
Paul pleaded for deliverance, but God answered with:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”
Key truths Pastor Derek emphasized:
God’s “no” is not rejection — it is protection.
Weakness is not disqualification — it is the doorway to divine strength.
Grace does not merely cover weakness — it transforms it into a stage for God’s power.
Paul discovered the greatest paradox of the Christian life:
When I am weak, then I am strong.
Pastor Derek shared personal experiences of illness and divine healing, declaring that God’s grace truly sustains, strengthens, and carries His children through every hardship.
3. HE IS ENOUGH — El Shaddai Is Faithful to Keep His Covenant
From Exodus 6 and Numbers 23:19, Pastor Derek reminded us that God’s faithfulness is not fragile or inconsistent like man’s.
He does not lie.
He does not change His mind.
He does not abandon His promises.
God revealed Himself to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as El Shaddai — the covenant-keeping God — and He invites us to trust Him the same way. Delays are not denials. Waiting is not wasted. His timing is perfect, and His promise is sure.
Pastor Derek shared testimonies from his early ministry years — from God’s protection in dangerous mission fields to God’s provision raising a young family overseas. His life stands as evidence that God is enough, every step of the journey.
Final Call: Depend Fully on El Shaddai
Pastor Derek closed by reminding the church that El Shaddai is not just a name to study — it is a revelation to embrace. And God reveals His name so His children may know Him personally.
He CAN — because He is Almighty.
He WILL — because His grace is sufficient.
He IS ENOUGH — because He is faithful to keep His covenant.
Whatever the church is facing — sickness, fear, uncertainty, or waiting — Pastor Derek urged everyone to turn fully to El Shaddai, the God who supplies strength, heals bodies, sustains lives, and fulfills promises.
